When You Stop Fighting What's True

01

The Energy

This weekend I surprised myself. Tried something new, expected nothing, and my body said yes. The kind of moment that cracks you open a little. The kind that makes you want to celebrate.

And then the next day I hit my mat and my body said something different. Not today. I could feel the ego reach for the story - you were so strong yesterday, you should be strong today - but I've been learning to listen instead of argue. So I dropped into child's pose while the rest of the room moved on. Stayed in the room, but only did what felt nourishing.

No apology. No punishment for not keeping up. It's a tough one for the ego. We have those moments when we think "aha, I have achieved it!" and life has a beautiful way of always showing us another layer.

The practice of yoga is my language for this. My favorite way of talking to myself. But the conversation - the relationship you have with your body, your life, your thoughts - it lives everywhere. It's in how you show up at work, how you move through your connections with others, what you ask of yourself on any given day.

This is what self-study actually looks like. Not finding the answers. Learning to listen to what's true in this moment. One day it might be a higher capacity. The next it might be rest. And both matter equally.

And this week, the energy is asking you the same thing. Not "what feels safe, comfortable, familiar?" but "what feels most alive?" Not performance, not the version of yourself that fits the mold. The version that's actually true. The moment you choose that - the moment you stop apologizing for being human and start honoring what you actually are - the reclamation begins.

But it happens in spirals, over time, in these small interactions with yourself. In the unraveling of all that trying to prove, to earn, to strive. In the softening.

The Teaching

What You Can't See

I'm seeing something in the people I work with. They know they're frayed. They know something needs to shift. They can name the patterns, identify the exhaustion, understand intellectually that the constant striving isn't working. It can be especially frustrating when someone is in the paradox of forcing their own calm.

Maybe you don't even know what dropping the fight actually feels like. What a calm nervous system tastes like. Because for many, the programs - the seeking, the proving, the aching to be acceptable - have been running so long, so automatically, that they've never known anything else.

You can't self-study something you don't even know is there. You can't shift what you can't see. And if you've never experienced a moment where your worth wasn't tied to your achievement, how do you even imagine it? How do you practice honoring yourself when your entire identity has been built on productivity and proof?

This is the deepest cage: not knowing you're in one.

The self-definition through doing runs so deep that it feels like the truth. Like that IS who you are. And as long as that's invisible, no amount of willpower or intention or even self-awareness can shift it. You're still operating from the same premise: I am what I produce. I am what I look like. I am defined by what I accomplish.

That first crack that lets the light in is a glimpse of safety. A moment where your nervous system finally exhales. Really exhales. Not because you forced it. Because the space - the person, the place, the practice, the witness - gave you permission to stop bracing.

And that's where it gets wild. Because relaxation itself can feel scary when you've never known it. Softness is unfamiliar. Your system might resist the very ease you've been chasing, because ease feels wrong. The bracing, the proving, the performance - that became your nervous system's definition of safety.

Finding that space matters. A reiki session. A sound bath. A class where no one's judging if you modify. A person who meets you without needing you to be anything other than what you actually are. Set and setting are everything. Because if your home, your work, your relationships are still only reinforcing the old stories, that exhale will stay elusive.

But once your nervous system tastes what it feels like to not be on trial... everything begins to shift.

The Invitation

Where to Begin

So where do you start when you don't even know what you're looking for? You find a witness. You give yourself permission to be confused, to feel uncomfortable, to not have it figured out yet.

This might look like a class where you can modify without explanation. A session where someone listens to what your body is actually telling you. A sound bath where your only job is to lie down and let the vibration do the work. A conversation with someone who isn't trying to fix you, just help you see more clearly.

Or it might be something you do right now, this moment.

Start with your body. Where are you braced? Feel into your jaw, your shoulders, your chest, your belly. Not to judge it. Just to notice. What's it like to hold this much tension? What story is underneath it? What are you protecting against? What would it feel like to soften just one degree?

Pay attention to your breath. Your body speaks in breath. When you're on alert, your breath gets shallow. Controlled. When you're safe, it deepens. This week, notice. When do I actually breathe? When do I stop?

And ask yourself this: If my worth wasn't on trial right now - if I had nothing to prove and no one to convince - what would I do differently? How would I move? What would I say? Who would I become?

The Gemini New Moon this Sunday is asking you to plant seeds from your truer self. Not the version that shrinks to fit. The actual you.

This is work that comes in layers. The walls that have been building for years might only crumble one brick at a time, but we keep chiseling away anyway.
