What's Possible Now

01

The Energy

There's something about that exact threshold moment - the sun at its highest point, the longest day, the peak of light - that feels like a real passage. Like we've been climbing a mountain for months, or years, and we're finally on the other side of it.

I don't know if you've felt it in your own body, but this whole season (and by season, I think I mean season of life we've all been in) has had a rock tumbler quality to it. Shaken. Rattled. Refined. The kind of intense friction that polishes stone. We've all been in it together, in different ways, but the tremor is real. And while I wouldn't say the diamond is fully polished yet - there's still work, still depth, still integration - there is a palpable shift. An energy moving from being torn down toward embodying something new.

Not that it's all downhill from here. But the vibe has changed, yeah?

I made a decision a long time ago in my life: the decision to look at everything as if it's working for me. Not in a toxic positivity way. More like: if I zoom out at the past couple of years, it's easier to see it all as preparation. Every crack. Every discomfort. Every moment I felt like the universe was dangling me upside down and shaking my pockets empty. All of it.

And here's the question that's been alive in me as I sit down to write this:

What if that rawness was the price of admission? What if being tossed and tumbled until your belly was hollow and your soul was exposed was the exact mechanism for dropping all the old limiting stories you carried? What if this whole shattering was just preparation for rebirth?

If you believed that - if you really, truly trusted that everything that broke you open was breaking you open toward something lighter, something freer, something more authentically you - what limits would finally fall away? What becomes possible in a nervous system that's no longer bracing against the change? What new frequency could you embody if you weren't using all your energy to resist what's already here?

The solstice asks that of us. It reminds us: you've crested the peak. Look at what you're carrying now. Look at what you've shed. Look at what's possible on this new side.

I dunno, maybe that's just hope dressed up as philosophy. But I've been feeling it. And I'm curious if you are too.

02

The Teaching

Your nervous system is built to protect you. That's not a flaw. It's an incredible intelligence. It learned a long time ago what it needed to do to keep you safe. Brace. Anticipate. Control what you can. Never let your guard down because the moment you do, something will break.

And maybe that was true once. Maybe it saved you.

But somewhere along the way, protection became a permanent stance. Bracing became your baseline. And now you're using all your energy to fight against a force that's already here. The change is happening whether you're gripping or not. The world is shifting whether you're resisting or not. And every ounce of effort you spend saying no, not this, not yet, not like this is energy you're not using to actually move.

This is the cage. Not the change itself. The resistance to the change.

We confuse surrender with passivity. We think if we stop fighting, we're giving up. Accepting defeat. But that's not what I'm talking about. Surrender isn't collapse. It's the opposite of collapse, actually. It's the active choice to stop using your body as a battering ram against what's already happening. It's the decision to redirect that fight energy into something that actually serves you.

The summer solstice sits at a threshold where the heat is undeniable. You can't hide from it. You can't negotiate with it. You either move with it or you burn up resisting it. And in that intensity, something becomes obvious: the cost of bracing is higher than the cost of bending.

When you finally stop fighting the current, you don't disappear into it. You move through it. And the energy that was going into resistance? That becomes available for something else entirely.

03

The Invitation

Your body knows what bracing feels like. You've been doing it for so long that it probably feels like truth. Like that's just who you are. The person who holds it together. The person who stays alert. The person who doesn't let things fall apart.

But here's what I want to try this week, and it's a little different.

Instead of scanning for tension (you already know where you're tight), pick one specific place where you're still fighting without even realizing it. Not your jaw. Not the obvious spots. I mean the place where you're still negotiating. The conversation you're having with someone where you're holding back what you actually think because you're managing how they'll react. The decision you keep revisiting because you don't trust your first instinct. The boundary you keep softening even though you said it was firm.

That's where the real bracing is.

Now here's the experiment: what happens if you stop that particular fight for just one interaction? Not forever. Not in all your relationships. Just this one conversation, this one moment, this one choice.

What happens to your nervous system when you let someone see you without the armor? When you make a decision and don't circle back to convince yourself it was right? When you speak what's actually true instead of what's safe?

You might feel shaky. That's the bracing reflex recalibrating. You might feel guilty, like you should be doing more to manage the outcome. That's old programming.

But you might also notice that the energy that was going into managing perception is suddenly available. For listening. For presence. For actually moving forward instead of staying stuck in the negotiation.

You've already done the work. You've crested the peak. You've shed the old stories that needed all that armor in the first place. The version of you that emerges on this new side is lighter. Freer. Less interested in proving or protecting.

So what if the armor just doesn't fit anymore?

Try dropping it once. Just once. In the place where you're still most actively resisting what wants to come through. And look at what it was costing you to fight… and what becomes possible when you choose differently. Notice how it might actually feel like coming home to yourself.
